 | The sound of guitars more or less defined my teens. From falling in love with the music of Nirvana and Oasis in the early 90s to boogieing to the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead, there was always a guitar playing something, somewhere; a little folk-gone-electric riff here, a searing guitar solo there. I devoured Kerouac's On The Road to try and grasp some of what inspired the music and attempted to learn to play myself. However, while I can strum a few chords, I'm better at knitting. So I decided to translate my love of guitar music into a shawl design. Unplugged is a classic crescent shape worked from the bottom up with guitar-shaped cabling on the lower half and stockinette stitch on the upper. Worked in a fingering weight, the shawl is a chord of three different colors. Where the colors change, they overlap in one-row stripes for several rows, which creates six lines, symbolizing the six strings of a guitar. Please note: For knitters who have not worked one-row stripes before, the technique of working one-row stripes without having to cut the yarn is explained in the pattern notes. SIZE: One size.

Length along top AFTER BLOCKING: 61 inches or 155cm. GAUGE: 16 sts/26 rows = 4 x 4" (10 x 10cm) in stockinette stitch AFTER BLOCKING.
